Lagos, NIGERIA - These crazy Philistines are at it again. What do they do when they cannot get us through their organizations or combinations? They use us against ourselves, and effectively, too.

Razak-SoyebiI do not suffer from the delayed symptoms associated with PMS nor do I have a tendency to blow issues out of proportion, but the truth is that until we learn to recognize the evil machinations of these crazy Philistines, they will, to borrow Mrs. Emilia Pankhurst's words, continue to block us in the house and confine us to street corners.
How do these crazy Philistines keep us where they want us? They use whatever means available to them ... social values, moral obligations, The Holy Bible, The Holy Koran, and when all else fails, they use us against ourselves ... us crazy bitches!
Someone once said to me that the world would be a "terrible" place without women in it. I'd like to change that to "better". These crazy Philistines don't need us. They get along just fine without us except in the area of procreation, and even that will soon be effectively taken care of with cloning.
After careful thought, I have reached the conclusion that these Philistines can be classified into two groups.
There are those who let us know straight out that they think we are inferior, nonentities and relegate us to the background where they want us to be. In retrospect, I believe this group of Philistines are safer and easier to deal with. At least we know their mind-set and we know what to expect from them.
At the other end of the scale, however, are those group of Philistines who let us think they consider us to be equals. They let us think we can have it all and be whoever and whatever we want to be, and then they stir up debates about how having it all can lead to stress and damage our health and how the children of housewives fare be tter than those of working mothers. Then, they throw us right in the middle of the fray, sit back and watch, delighting in their mischief. And what do we do? Us crazy bitches? We jump right in the middle of the fray, tearing ourselves apart, exactly what these crazy Philistines expect us to do.
A wise man it was who once said that women are their own worst enemies. I'll readily second that.
When these crazy Philistines are not busy plotting our ruin, they spend their time constructively, seeking ways to consolidate their positions.
And how do us crazy bitches spend our time? We spend it tearing ourselves apart, seeking to destroy the legacy passed down to us by great women in history who fought bravely for the little freedom we now enjoy. We moan that there are not enough women in the workplace, and then we turn around and tear these women apart for not being there all the time for their children. We moan that there are not enough women in politics, and then we turn around and bitch about the world not being quite ready for female leaders.
Us crazy bitches!
Just so to assure myself that I do not suffer from any delayed symptoms of PMS, I decided to look up the word "bitch" in the dictionary. It says, "A woman, especially a cruel and unpleasant one." In addition, the thesaurus says that to bitch means, "To express negative feelings, especially of dissatisfaction or resentment. To complain, grouch, grump or whine."
Got it?
These Philistines understand what the word "bitch" is all about. Perhaps even more than us crazy bitches do. They know it is part of our inherent make-up and they use it effectively against us. They use us to keep us where they want us to be -- in the background bitching over ourselves while they move on ahead, consolidating their positions.
They understand the usage of words against us and use it effectively, too. Ever wondered why a Philistine who plays around is looked upon with fondness and said to be sowing his wild oats? Meanwhile, a bitch who does the same is frowned upon and labeled a whore. It doesn't stop there.
These crazy Philistines coined such words as waitress, actress, hostess, authoress just for us. Well, I have always believed that the word "ess" was adopted from the word "less". Waitress ... a lesser waiter; actress ... a lesser actor; hostess ... a lesser host; authoress ... a lesser author.
Thankfully, some of us saner bitches are fighting back against the usage of such gender demeaning words.
In my country, these crazy Philistines take their evil machinations a step further by adopting polygamy as a divide-and-rule tool to further subjugate the women. And what do these bitches do? They accept it as a way of life, competing and constantly bitching against each other to gain the favor of these Philistines.
Up North, these bitches throw the Holy Koran in your face, claiming that it is written in that holy book that a man can take as many as four wives. What they conveniently choose to forget, though, is that there is a proviso attached -- if he can love and treat all four women equally.
Show me a man who can achieve that and I'll show you an inherently dishonest man. Not even Eros, the Greek god of love could achieve that!
Down South, these crazy Philistines block us in the house by throwing the verse in the Holy Bible that says that a man is the head of the house repeatedly in our faces.
I have always argued that that verse was not put in that holy book [not] to divide and subjugate, but to create a harmonious and loving atmosphere. Yet, some of us bitches accept it at face value and then turn around and bitch about unfair treatment, emotional and physical abuse and a lack of respect.
For as long as we fail to recognize the evil machinations of these Philistines, they will continue to block us in the house and confine us to street corners.
For as long as we continue to bitch and fight amongst ourselves, they will continue to be on top.
For as long as we consider ourselves the enemy and not them, we will forever remain like cherries in a fruit cake.
We lose ground everyday and make a mockery of ourselves with the constant bitching. The time has come to stop the bitching and close the divide. To do this effectively, we have to recognize that:
Legendary actor Katharine Hepburn it was who once said that she never realized women were supposed to be the inferior sex. Fine words from a very fine and talented lady.
- Yes, we can be career women and good mothers as well.
- Yes, we can equally choose to be housewives or homemakers or whatever we choose to call ourselves and still be happy with our choice.
- Yes, the world is ready for female leaders in every arena. Long overdue, I would say.
- Yes, it is our right to decide whether to keep or not to keep an unborn child. The right should not rest with the church, government or any crazy Philistine. After all, we do not tell these Philistines what to do with their bodies or stuff, do we?
- And on a local level, yes, yes, yes, we should kick against old-fashioned customs that treat widows with contempt. We should not stand by and watch a widow drink the liquid used to bathe the corpse of her husband all in the name of tradition. It is sickening, barbaric and deadly. Besides, a Philistine who loses his wife isn't subjected to this sort of cruel treatment.
- And yes, yes, yes, we should say no to the continuous mutilation of the female genitals or the circumcision of the female child. We moan publicly about the serious health hazards involved, and then we turn around and privately subject our daughters to this act, claiming that it helps to reduce promiscuity. It does not. It only endangers the life of the female child and makes intercourse and child-bearing in later years nightmarish.
- And no, we do not need to share a man with three or more other women to be considered "good". It erodes our self-respect and diminishes our dignity.
The power is us!
