LOS ANGELES -

Once again mass culture media tells us,
and thus society itself tells us, that the ultimate achievement for a woman is to bear children. And so we witness many older females wearing visors and overalls pushing strollers with their sensitive men. We are inundated with images of children, they are like fetishes. I went on a seven-mile jaunt today and counted seventeen strollers and one babe thrown over the shoulder of a young Latina at a bustop. That’s a lot of babies. I also saw three older pregnant women, they were wearing visors and overalls too. It’s a sunny weekend in Southern California so the sensitive men wear visors and shorts, maybe sunglasses too.

Many of the mothers of today
are older (let’s say over 35) because in their youth the second wave of Feminism crushed and smashed the belief that a woman’s identity is contingent on her husband and her children. This contingency turned out to be, for a lot of women, a very contained, desperate and permeating existence, so many women burned their bras, publicly, in order to symbolically torch containment. They burned their bras and their breasts bounced emancipated and free which became symbolic of Liberating Consciousness. This bra-burning, liberating consciousness opened up all sorts of promiscuous doors that were previously locked like a chastity belt. This rediscovered festivity of promiscuity gelled really nicely with the Free Love Ideology of the Hippies that was occurring at the same time.

So when these mothers of today were younger
they were more or less impelled to get their self-identity together through education and a career. Serious Female Careering would be no problem because the Feminist Movement took great strides in crushing and smashing the previously male-emphasized sphere of public life. By the time I began menstruating, I viewed many advertisements and films that showed bra-less emancipated women doing active things in clothes that permitted activism. No more crossed-leg poses, women were portrayed Lunging and Loping. Rarely were women shown with a child because women were breaking deeply wedged taboos like "the ultimate achievement of a bourgeois woman is to bear children in the suburbs." Mass culture media was pregnant with the second wave of Feminism. So, it’s sort of like the Women’s Movement got a thumbs-up, a big "Aces!" from the male-controlled mass culture media. Maybe the men had to take women seriously because so many females were scorned in their disillusionment of the lying mass culture media and thus society itself. All those women entering the Labor Force would be good for the Economy too.

I am thirty-seven years old
and thus a perfect candidate to wear a visor and overalls and push my first child around in a stroller with my sensitive man. Visors are dumb. They remind me of Lee Majors in a Hollywood Tennis Match. I like to feel the sun on my face. I have an intra-uterine device that is effective for ten years. I got this IUD about four years ago. Works like a charm. Birth-control isn’t really discussed that much today because the doors to American promiscuity have once again been closed, or that is what mass culture media tells us with their findings in all-important Polls. Legislation and law-enforcement also tell us that promiscuity is locked-up in a hard-to-reach place; many people are in prison for deviating from the Heterosexual Family Value Program (the heterosexuals have the all-important, politically-viable children). Potheads go to prison, they are "deviants." Prostitutes and their clients: deviants, lock them up. According to Polls, many more young people are "saving ‘it’ for marriage." "It" is of course "sex," also known in heterosexual terms as the "old in and out." And dontcha know that more young people embrace Heterosexual Family Values too!

In an article
of the 23 May New York Times Magazine (devoted to Women), precocious nine year old girls of today were queried about which women they "look up to." One girl liked Marge Simpson (a cartoon character who "stays with her husband even though he is a slob"), another liked Dana Scully (a fictional character of the X-files television series who "wants to find the Truth"--the opening of the X-files episodes tells us that "the Truth is out there") and they all looked up to Hilary Clinton (also an invented character when you Think About It), who "must be angry with her husband." One girl picked Susan B. Anthony. Yikes. Are these girls for real?

I am a perfect candidate for post-modern pregnancy
yet all the advertisements exhibiting precocious tykes, all the women in visors and overalls pushing strollers, all the politicians invoking protect-the-children hysteria have not convinced me that I am missing out on the ultimate expression of my maternal mystique. Men still control the mass culture media. Look at Ted Turner and that Disney guy, Eisner. Notice how the same lines of thought nicely knit together in all the Major Television and Newspaper and Magazine Rhetoric. Is mass culture media a reflection of society or is society a reflection of mass culture media? They perpetuate each other like pistons in a finely tuned machine. How do epochs define themselves? Why are we promiscuous in the 70’s, debauched and then recovering in the 80’s and then puritanical in the 90’s?

Hegel asserted that the collective, universal Spirit, or Ideology
presupposes material expression (reality) of that Spirit. So, if the majority of the people are in a conservative mood, then material expression (laws, fashion, media, etc.) will reflect that collective conservative Spirit. Karl Marx turned Hegel’s dialectic on its head and asserted that, no no no (nein, nein, nein), collective material expression (reality) presupposes Spirit, Ideology. Here, most people adapt to reigning material reality and the Ideology behind it. But then how does material reality come into existence? Material reality is constructed by the Wealthy even though there are far fewer wealthy people than poor people--who are, by the way, reliant on the wealthy class’ enterprise for personal survival. Historically and yes even today, Men are the Wealthy owners, CEOs, what-have-you, of Really Important and Huge Enterprises (so huge and vast that, like God, one would pass-out or probably lose their mind if they saw All of It at once). The State (leaders/rulers) have a nose for wealth. The Wealthy need the State because the State makes the rules. Thus, the State and the Wealthy are drawn to each other because their merger makes everyone a winner (except the always adapting proletariat).

When the State and the Wealthy are together,
hormones are released that imitate Sexual Arousal. Stand nearby a Democrat or Republican campaign fund-drive and you can feel the humidity of Sexual Arousal. The men keep their jackets on because they have to hide their erections. They walk funny, the men, because they have painful hard-ons. Women in these situations sometimes experience phantom erections, as if they suddenly know what it is like to have a penis. It smells like damp currency in there.

In this century
we have sometimes been more Hegel than Marx and we have at other times been more Marx than Hegel. Marx contentedly sighs when people organize and physically revolt against oppressive existing reality structures. The late 60’s/early 70’s was the most recent time of "demonstrable discontent." Women were vociferous and active as were minorities and anti-Viet Nam War people. In Prague, women wore mini-skirts to taunt the Soviet soldiers who had moved in on their turf. This is clever velvet Marxism.

Hegel nods
when we go along with the State and Its ideological changes and material consequences of those changes. FDR’s New Deal was a Hegelian Manoeuver. If this is a perpetual wrestling match, Hegel would have Marx pinned right now. Marx would be crying for his mother. Concepts and Ideas and their material manifestations prevail today and not too many people object. There is not a lot of consistent and massive civil disobedience occurring. People are more insular in their family-oriented lives, just like the 50’s. When Bill Clinton was impeached there was a lot of jumping up and down and ranting in the Media and internet chat rooms but scads of people didn’t demonstrate and revolt and duke it out.

The Media is a Behemoth,
constantly impressing us with the prevailing Concepts and Ideas of the State and thus the Wealthy. We must be in a state of Fear so that politicians can Save Us so we are presented with many many threats to our security. Many politicians run their campaigns on Concepts like "Fear (thus ‘I will Save You’)" or "I Care" or "Personal Responsibility." Can you hear Marx crying for his mother? We still exist in an ambiance of Masculine Spirit, even after all the Feminist Fireworks of 30 years ago. I have already mentioned that the Important Wealthy persons are still Men. Most of Important Leaders of today are men too. These men In Power are Enforcers because they are Intolerant and Linear. Missiles and nuclear warheads and wagging, chiding pointed fingers are Phallic in form. Battering-rams of the police and jailers are shaped like penises. There are some female leaders, but many of them, I think, are men disguised as women. They are into Enforcing, just like the Men. Their eyes sparkle when penis-shaped missiles are launched, whistling toward their targets. Their pink suits do not fool me. Most of these women do not want to discuss birth control or issues for adults. They advocate maternal mystique. If you have children they speak for you.

At the beginning of this century,
industrialization was fervent in western civilization. Industrial sprawl and corporatization of capitalism expanded at an extraordinary rate. Where industrialization was proliferating, women, men and children were working their asses off in factories and in expanding systems of transport that would deliver the factory goods. Women were active in public life and in private life. Women and men were equally involved in the movements of socialism and unions so that workers would not be overly exploited by the corporate capitalists. Because women were so active in public life, they were able to break out of the Victorian era chastity belt that had previously oppressed them. Women in America wore sly hats that fell over one eye while they rallied for the right to vote. Women played a large role in enacting Prohibition in the United States.

Life was beginning to become more mechanized
and women were more and more emancipated from a sole existence in the home. It was not so convenient to bear a lot of children. Margaret Sanger raised consciousness about birth control for women in the United States. Dr. Marie Stopes advocated birth control for women in Great Britain. Women were given the opportunity to take charge of their bodies in a changing world. If women use birth control, they are having sex for reasons other than Procreation. Men were accustomed to having a monopoly on this non-procreative sexual activity so these birth control advocating women were thrown in jail. If women are not having sex for Procreative Purposes then they are either actually enjoying sex without worry of pregnancy or they are submitting to some oppressive male in their life without the worry of pregnancy. Anyway, birth control presented Power to women because they could Prevent pregnancy.

Periods of tremendous change
tend to resonate around the world.

V.I. Lenin’s
two favorite verbs were "crush" and "smash." He smashed his way out of his mother’s womb and then eventually crushed the Russian Tsar, Nicholas. Peasants, women and men, rose-up against the Tsar, smashing and crushing the tsarist regime as per V.I. Lenin. V.I. was a hit with the peasants but wasn’t so popular with many of the bourgeoisie and intelligentsia. Trotsky was a real pain in the ass, Rosa Luxemborg too. After successfully crushing and smashing the tsarist regime, Lenin started diddling with Marxist Theory, that is he started spinning what Karl was saying in order to better rule the anxious and uneducated Russian peasants. Part of the reason why V.I. Lenin spun Marxist Theory was precisely because the peasants were anxious and uneducated; how could the proletariat make quality decisions for themselves if they were ignorant? Another part of the reason that V.I. Lenin crushed and smashed Marxist Theory was that capitalism was becoming an impressive beast in Europe and the United States. V.I. Lenin and also Stalin saw that in order to compete in rest of the world, they would have to compete like capitalists disguised as Communists.

The 20’s were an excessive time.
Women further pursued the limits of their emancipation from the Victorian Era chastity belt. They would go really really far and men were aroused and happy to go the distance with them. Promiscuity reigned. The economy was ultra-robust until the stock market crashed. Prohibition was still enforced in the United States and if ever there was a time that people needed a few belts, it was probably then. People had everything and then they had nothing. I would want a few belts. But having a few belts was illegal. This didn’t stop people. Just like freaking-out about marijuana does not stop people today. Some people need to get high sometimes. Animals like to get high sometimes too. Cats like catnip and other animals are attuned to certain berries and so forth that will alter their consciousness. The point is that there was this detrimental change in the economy that had an effect on the way people think and live. There was obviously a need to Do Something but that means more change and lots of people become insecure because they want things to be the way they were, familiar-like, thus controllable.

Women continued to be extroverted and active in the public sphere of life.
Some of them used birth control. Some of them did not for Religious Reasons.

Many Mothers of America
despised Franklin Delano Roosevelt. There were many more Mothers who were really inspired by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He said inspirational things, non-glib, like "There is nothing to fear but fear itself." FDR implemented a lot of changes and change tends to arouse fear and apprehension. People want assured outcomes, they want to feel safe, something like sitting in the lap of a solid mother. When people are afraid they agitate or enforce or play dead. They sometimes also drink and smoke. Thank goodness FDR repealed the Prohibition Ammendment. FDR smoked cigarettes, Stalin too. Churchill liked cigars. There was a lot of second-hand smoke at Yalta. But no one complained.

FDR experienced a love/hate collective angst response
where Mothers were concerned. The FDR haters were isolationists; they considered impending American involvement in the Situation (war) in Europe as a Communist Plot and/or an Imperialist Plot. Many of the FDR haters were Mothers and they were really attached, umbilical-like, to their draft-worthy sons. These FDR haters were not convinced of his New Deal either--it was part of the Communist and/or Imperialist Plot. Some of these FDR haters even lauded Hitler in order to more seriously nurse their fears and resentments. Fascism: yes; Communism: no. Christians: yes; Judaism: no; Atheism: no. They ideologically joined Fascist Germany and literally entertained their agitation techniques because they understood power and politics, politics and power: fusion of forces makes a bigger force. Just like FDR, but opposite. They really hated Roosevelt, and his wife Eleanore too.

Hard-work once again became emphasized,
just like the turn of the century. However now hard-work was oriented toward a Universal Goal rather than mere Personal Survival. Peoples, women and men, were brought together, working toward a Collective Goal. We were all going to war which means "chaos." People live on the edge in chaos, what else is there to do?

Stalin screwed with time; he was something like a Magus.
If the backward Soviet Union had any hope of competing in the capitalist world, then the country would need to do an Industrial Revolution and lickety-split. So Stalin and his cronies got the denizens together, men and women, and whipped-up a quickie Industrial Revolution. The pages of the recently-implemented Gregorian Calendar flipped really fast; the hands on the clocks of all the Soviet Union time zones spun quite quickly; maybe maniacal Soviet music blared across the land to encourage speed. The women were captured on film, raising their sickles and hammers, laboring equally with the men. They would, men and women, women and men, curse and hammer and do stuff with their sickles and then go throw back some vodka and then do it again and again and again, really fast. Women quickly became scientists and were captured on film in official looking scientific goggles and white lab coats. The women worked hard and occasionally seized a promiscuous moment in this suddenly fast-paced existence, just like the men. There were a lot of fleeting gropes and trysts. The women channeled almost all their energy into birthing the quick Industrial Revolution, but they occassionally stole some gropes. Wouldn’t you?.

Germany invaded the Soviet Union
even though Hitler told Stalin that Germany would not do this. Stalin, disillusioned, stayed in bed for two days; he just couldn’t believe that Hitler duped him. But the Russians are really resilient and Hitler, impatient, decided to invade the Soviet Union in the winter. The German Army was not prepared for the harsh winter reality and they lost that battle. Like all wars and battles, this one was good for Soviet Union Industrialization, just like the United States. Finally Stalin puffed a post-coital cigarette of Industrial and War Achievement. Stalin probably looked at the film-footage of the women working and indulging in non-serious fleeting gropes and trysts and worried that he had created a Monster. So he put a stop to the screwing-around and otherwise promiscuous behavior of the women by indoctrinating them into the idea of "Family Values." You have to convince women of this change because they are the ones that will sustain the embryo. Some women are easy to convince, others are not. So you have to assure some slack for their trouble. This is called diplomatic tact. Women in the USA got all kinds of nifty machines and gadgets to help them run their homes with more ease. There is also the tax write off. The Soviet women got better housing or maybe a few other perks like more food. So, marriage and together-like devotion and of course procreation of new workers became an imperative development. Divorce wasn’t so easy to get, neither were abortions. New film-footage showed couples, devoted to their togetherness and their Perverted Marxist Ideology, with their Soviet babies.

In the United States,
the American Family Value Crusade emerged in rhythm with the Soviet Union’s Family Value Crusade. Both nations were keeping a paranoid, scrutinizing eye on each other so they probably decided to pursue the Family Value Crusade at the same time, maybe trying to top each other. American Women had become accustomed to working during The War. They riveted, they welded, they heaved and hurled. They were captured on film with wrenches and screwdrivers; they sometimes wore trousers. They rationed, they collected rubber, they rode motorcyles. Bette Davis, a famous actress, would, behind-the-scenes, quip "kiss my ass," just like a guy. Joan Crawford would quip curses, too. Bette and Joan, according to movie magazines, hated each other so much that they almost came to blows at times. The country ran fairly efficiently in the change that was causing so much apprehension while in its previous pre-war, New Deal anticipatory state. The Mothers who hated FDR were frequently arrested for sedition. Some of the soldiers overseas masturbated while looking at an arresting pin-up of Betty Grable. Betty Grable’s curvacious image offered much solace to GI Joes. Freud would have probably surmised this as Oedipal even though Betty Grable’s breasts were not shown in the picture. Many of the masturbators made it back to the States and were anxious to procreate many children with American women. Betty Grable: yes; Masturbation: yes; Procreation: yes!

The GI’s came home
and discovered that the Average American Woman had become accustomed to working and running-around while so many of these Average American Men were fighting, risking death, for an important cause in Europe, in the World. When the men returned, they wanted to procreate with blondes and brunettes and yes redheads, too, but the Average American Women were Busy, just like the Soviet Women. So, American film-footage was shown with together-like couples, heterosexual of course, and their American babies. Magazines and films began really pressing the mother-of-children-with-husband-in-a-home priority as did the emerging craze: television. Women are usually pretty flexible, so the mass culture media suggestion of giving up one life for another life worked. So the men stopped masturbating and got the show on the road, after a proper marriage certificate was obtained. Marriage Certificate=Socially Acceptable Coitus.

Soviet women
had to continue working even though they had children, just like America today. See, these two countries are really a lot alike. Both of these nations have lots of phallic-shaped nuclear war heads, effective propaganda ("heterosexual family values NOW"), crazy spy organizations that screw-up all the time and women and men who work a lot. Soviet women never really got the 50’s/early-to-mid 60’s "I’m a housewife" trend. They carried their children to the workplace, the workplace provided child-care, just like what many in America want today. American Women didn’t need child-care at work in the 50’s/early-to-mid 60’s because a lot of these mothers stayed home all day, just like TV. A lot of these women were well-educated and so their brains sort of twitched and panicked without any Decent Stimulation. Psycho-analysts would assure them that their lives were glorified; magazines would re-iterate this glorification. But Betty Friedan asserted that, for housewifes, the days would blur together into one depressing prison-sentence and so many of these women would take tranquilizers in order to curb their desperation. There is a great movie starring Carrie Sondgress which depicts this dilemma, the title of the movie is "Diary of a Mad Housewife." The Soviet population didn’t have access to this movie, which is O.K. because they probably would not have related to it.

Mass culture media perpetuated
a glorified existence of Heterosexual Family Values wherein the woman stayed at home with the children they birthed. The Family was so emphasized that not many people knew what the hell was going on in the rest of the world except that the Soviet Union had The Bomb. There is that fear that we need to feel all the time so that politicians can Save Us. In reality many women did not feel glorified, rather they felt isolated in their unhappiness and emptiness. They felt isolated because everywhere they looked the mass culture media was presenting this Glorified Ideal along with The Bomb. So each woman that was unhappy and empty would pretend that she was "fine" or "just super." And each pretending woman would see other pretending women, each thinking that they alone were unhappy and empty. They all believed mass culture media. What do you believe today? What are we supposed to believe?

A few women resisted the Collective Ideology and Definition of the 50’s.
Some of these females did not want to have children, in fact some of them would flip-off children. Some of these insolent females were drug addicts, drunks, derelicts; see what happens when you don’t channel your maternal instincts properly? They used birth control and screwed-around without the proper marriage certificate that gave a status-quo thumbs-up to coitus. Some of these women were mistresses of married men. Some of these women were sexually attracted to other women and their bonds were courageous in the face of Dwight D. Eisenhower and the mass culture machine of social containment.

There were men who liked men, too.
Like Tennessee Williams the brilliant playwright. He liked men. He took good care of his female characters, the men too, because he let them expose all of their personalities, not just the nice parts. Tennessee Williams had a sympathetic maternal streak. Jung would surmise this as a strong Anima. Men: yes; Blanche DuBois: yes.

The Beatniks were harbingers of change that was to come.
The Beatniks "traveled" free-form like, on both literal and psychic levels. The Beatniks were untying social and psychic restraints. William Bourroughs was a Beatnik and he liked men and one woman. He was a drug addict too. He was married to a woman named Joan whom he accidentally shot in the head. Today, Joan’s family would litigate against the bi-sexual, drug-addicted, obscenity-writing William Burroughs. He would be subject to persecution by Major Political and Lawyerly-expert types on Larry King and Crossfire. The President and his maternal, It-Takes-A-Village wife would offer prayers and solemn outrage on International Television. The President would point out on a map where the event had occurred (Mexico). The Soviet Union may have executed William Burroughs if he were a Soviet. Or at least he would’ve gone to Siberia, just like Dostoevsky. Dostoevsky was not bi-sexual nor drug-addicted. He was epileptic and a compulsive-gambler. He was also politically subversive. Compulsive gambling: yes; Dissidence: yes. William Burroughs was civilly and socially subversive. Back in those times, unpleasantness was witheld or imprisoned, just like today.

In Cuba
Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara were busting-up the Batista Regime. Cuba is sort of like a rebellious wife of the United States Patriarchy. The United States Patriarchy is a polygamist and misogynist too; the collective harem of the United States is called "Latin America." The Soviet Union was a polygamist/misogynist, just like the USA. The collective harem of the Soviet Union was called "Eastern Europe." Now the Soviet Union is Russia and he is like a self-destructive bachelor in a mid-life crisis. The authoritarian, misogynist United States laid down ground-rules for Cuba but Cuba is what you would call Exceptionally Rebellious, so she kept misbehaving with revolutionary characters and saying "screw-you" or "besa mi cula." She didn’t like the men that the USA had arranged to watch over her so she turned on them. Ridiculed them. Lynched them. And so forth. She liked men who would stand-up to her authoritarian husband, so she definitely liked Fidel Castro and especially Ernesto Che Guevara. They would eventually go to UN conventions and use a lot of really harsh words like "imperialist" and "hegemony" when they referred to the United States. Women in Cuba, convinced of the Good of the Revolution, would risk their lives carrying notes back and forth between the rebels who were spread out across the island. Sometimes they would put the notes in their brassieres, other times they would attach the notes or even ammunition type materials on their thighs under the armour of their skirts. Eventually the Revolutionaries took back Cuba and then they expropriated American and Cuban Bourgeoisie owned land. And then Cuba was seen in photographs rubbing-up with the United States’ arch-enemy: the Soviet Union. Cuba had the United States in a cuckold. So the United States Punished Cuba. And the Soviet Union became Russia, the neurotic bachelor in a mid-life crisis that cannot help itself much less Cuba. And the United States is still punishing Cuba several decades later. This is really Epic, like the film the Godfather. Michael Corleone just couldn’t forgive his brother Fredo. Their troubles started in Cuba.

I saw a photograph of a woman
who was a mistress of Fidel Castro. She was bourgeois and she became annoyed with Fidel because he wasn’t paying a lot of attention to her once he got side-tracked with the Revolution. She wanted to convince him of her own Revolutionary Fervor so she had herself photographed in fatigues. She held a rifle and smiled. She wore glitzy drop earrings and these glamorous accessories added an ironic zeal to the guerrilla ensemble.

The Cuban Missile Crisis
provided great provocative material for Lenny Bruce’s Routine. He voiced the fear of death and the powerlessness of everyone; people laughed so hard they cried. Lenny Bruce married a stripper. Strippers reveal their breasts and this offers solace to many because the breasts are vessels of nourishment. Strippers perform public service. Do breasts resemble bombs?

Often we must wait a while for collective developments of Spirit
to express themselves. It is as if there is always an opposite side to the current state of Spirit and this polarization will at first just sort of scratch at our consciousness before it becomes more and more obvious and people actually start giving it voice and form. Sometimes what we want to deny the most is what needs to be expressed the most. When we cross over to the other side, tempestuous change occurs in our material existence because the existing structures, and the Spirit behind them, are broken down. Some people are aware of the developments and are excited because current structures of existence are not working for them. These people move change along; these people are agitators. Other people are not eager to let go of the existing structures because they work for them; these people are reactionaries. One thing is certain: those in power will do everything they can to stay in power and they are usually men, aren’t they?

The late 60’s and early 70’s
was a time of tempestuous change. The opposing line of thought to the existing line of thought reached a breaking point of uncontainability. Life was really conservative for quite a while before sustained civil unrest blasted the citadel of conservatism. After the Feminist Movement, the Anti-VietNam Movement, the Civil Rights Movement, people, for a bit of time, felt as if they were actually participating in The Whole. They didn’t feel as if they were always adapting to the Prevailing Reign of Spirit dictated by the State and the Wealthy. Instead, material reality was crushed and smashed by a Real Spirit rather than the State and Mass Media Culture Spirit. Many people turned their backs on their previously insular private lives and faced Public Life, Society, Humanity. Wow. Old taboos were flaunted, thus they lost their power. A lot of young people danced around naked at Woodstock and drove VW MicroBuses around, openly seeking Alternative Lifestyles. JFK, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Malcolm X were assassinated. Che Guevara was killed too. Richard Nixon eventually resigned.

In the 70’s Disco
expressed the opening doors of promiscuity, especially for women. Donna Summer brazenly moaned "Love To Love You Baby" and asserted that she was looking for some "Hot Stuff." Lots of clingy fabrics exposed both male genitalia and female breasts. When women spun on the disco floors, their clingy dresses often whirled up around their hips. Other young people got into Led Zeppelin and pre-sobriety Aerosmith and other "hard-rock" bands. Hair was long and loose. Birth control was in full swing. A film titled "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" depicted a woman, portrayed by Diane Keaton, who got her tubes tied while at optimal child-bearing age. The tubal-tied woman protagonist ran-around in discotheques and picked-up on men. Richard Gere played a psychopath who eventually did-in Diane Keaton’s character under a very affective, disorienting strobe light. In spite of Donna Summer’s celebratory sexual brazeness, women were still given necessary allegories regarding the potential costs of promiscuity. "Saturday Night Fever" further exhibited the "break-down" of the Pursuit of Family Values that existed such a short time ago. The United States and the Soviet Union continued their cursory antagonism. Saturday Night Live created a series of popular skits that depicted two Russian guys in the Discotheque Life.

Work and success, success and work
again became emphasized in the 80’s. And like the beginning of this century, both women and men were working hard together. There was no Universal Goal but eventually this work and success, success and work rhythm would become necessary for Personal Survival. Men and women across the world work really really hard and for the most part don’t get paid at a rate that is commesurate with Economic Expansion. The worker’s wages didn’t rise like the cost of living. Economics has us in a cuckold. So many of us have Credit Cards so that we can simulate bourgeoise lifestyle.

Pretty Soon the Soviet Union would become Russia,
all the Eastern Bloc countries would eventually embrace Democracy and dance-around and smack their lips for a pair of Levis which would now be more easily accessible to to them along with many other Hip things to Consume. USA: winner; Capitalist Russians disguised as Communists: not any more. Cuba was the Big Hold-Out, she kind of flipped her hair at the USA but she’s getting really really thin because she is starving. Maybe she wants a Big Mac, those Big Macs have been advertised, proliferated and duly consumed around most of the world for a long time. She can still Mambo though. Women are pretty resilient.

Women reached kind of an Power Arc
in the late 80’s to mid-90’s. Lots of females were in politics in the USA. Bill Clinton appointed the inept Janet Reno as the Attorney General and Madeleine Albright’s eyes sparkle a lot because she gets to play the part of Henry Kissinger with all those penis-shaped missiles and messy wheelings and dealings that Effect The World, that Make Chapters in History Books. For the Influential Surgeon General position, Bill Clinton recommended a woman who advocated Birth Control and Masturbation (!). But the regenerated Family Value Crusade writing was on the wall and so this promiscuous-minded women was famous for only the proverbial fifteen minutes.

And the National Organization of Women in America
smoked post-coital cigarettes of Female Achievement until cigarette smoking was persecuted by the guy who appointed these women to positions of power. This is called a Trade-Off and it sometimes confuses and/or upsets people who are followers of the Powerful Important People because the Powerful Important People suddenly change Their Minds and/or spin, diddle-with Ideology for Political Reasons.

For a small frame of time
there was no more Universal Goal or Threat because the Soviet Nemesis Superpower had shattered apart. So, George Bush invoked Iraq and that has been going-on forever since the late 80’s/early 90’s. And now there is Yugoslavia too. And many Terrorist Threats including maybe all of us against each other. And the War on Drugs--not pharmaceutical drugs or Alcohol but clearly defined Illicit Substances. We are all under Suspcicion. There are many many surveillance cameras recording our suspicious body-languages. Many people make money Profiling Criminal Behavior as more and more activities become stringently Prosecute’able. This is the Necessary Fear Factor whipped into an thick and palpable PurŽe. This is what the Men have been doing all along and even though Women are in Important Positions of Power, things have not changed, rather women have adapted to the Male Modus Operandi that has always Ruled the World. Women are flexible. And now they are Procreating again. Just like the 50’s except the women are older and now most women Have To Work Really Long Hours.

So once again
we are experiencing Intense Social Containment as a result of another epoch of Family Value Crusading. The ultimate achievement is to bear children. Many men have received Sensitivity-Training so they "feel our collective female pain." There are some women who embrace the heavily-marketed Lilith Theme. There are Lilith Albums wherein female musicians sing folksy, not too threatening, tunes. These women yelp a lot. Like Alanis Morrisett, she yelps and composes psycho-analytical lyrics. This is sort of ironic because Lilith is what you would call an Ultra-Threatening, Deeply Dark and Dangerous Archetype. Lilith is not into psycho-analysing and controlling her Socially Subversive Nature. Lilith is highly Sexual. She bore a lot of demonic children and she scoffs at men and their fear of her Aggressive Female Sexuality. She wanted to have non-missionary-position sex with Adam and he Freaked. Priests used to sleep with their hands over their genitals to protect themselves from Lilith while they slept. She chortles at this type of behavior. If you are going to truly invoke Lilith, you cannot pussyfoot around. As an individual, you can’t really experience both Lilith and the chaste Family Value Crusade at the same time. So the Lilith thing is like a thumbs-up, a big "Aces!" from the male-thought-dominated mass culture media. The mass culture media creation of Lilith allows women to believe that they are potent but at the same time doesn’t threaten to topple the whole existing social structure.

Can you hear Marx crying for his mother?
Hegel has Marx pinned on the dialectic mat. But as we can see, Ideology and Material Expression of Ideology are always developing and changing even when we do not immediately notice these developments and changes. Maybe, like me, the Family Value Crusade, the prevailing encouragement to bear children is not what you want out of life. Maybe like the 50’s you feel isolated because the mass culture media presents the Reigning Ideology as if everyone believes it and lives it. But no one is really alone, that is a perpetuated illusion. People are very varied and interesting. We are insulated right now because that is the nature of Family Value Crusades: people go inward under the pressure of containment. Society reflects mass culture media which reflects society. Make no mistake, Male Ideas and Behavior still reign in the hands of those who are Important and Powerful. This is evident in all the phallus-shaped missiles, battering-rams and social containment techniques. The Stock Market has a big erection, it is like a really well-hung porno star that go on and on for Tremendous Lengths of Time before finally ejaculating and going flaccid.

One of the greatest things that have happened for women
in this century is Birth Control. Heterosexual Women can have sex without feigning Procreative Motivation; pregnancy is not Mandatory. The maternal mystique ebbs and flows, often guided and cajoled by mass culture media and thus the pressure of society itself. But Really the choice to bear children is up to the individual woman. This is very powerful when you Think About It.
