RDR logo.OMEGA - With this month, I've been at the helm of this enterprise a very long time. Because of it, I've developed an estimable reputation as a good editor. Lots of people query The World's Magazine and hope we'll feature their writing here.

But I've been doing this too long. I've picked up a lot responsibilities at other publications. And it would be unfair to G21 and the standards we have set for ourselves to pretend that I can continue to be both Editor and Publisher while meeting those other responsibilities.

So I have to accept that I must step back. We need new blood, not only in terms of writers and contributors, but also to keep our editorial vision "living." We need a new editor.

And I have somebody in mind.

Today I asked our long-time contributor, WOLF DE VOON, to step into the breach. Wolf and I will be negotiating during this Anniversary Month of the magazine for him to sit in the Big Chair.

Not only is he a quality writer, but --- I believe --- he shares my eclectic sensibility. I think he can herd these cats (our egotistical and opinionated writing team) as well as I have over the years. I also believe that this "franchise," as he calls it, will benefit from his insight and direction.

Best yet, I can step back and ONLY be a publisher for a while. I can meet my commitment to develop new properties over at Andover.net. And, hey, I can return to being a writer. My characters are getting restive for a resumption of my attention.

Change is good.

As The World's Magazine embarks upon its fifth year here on the Web, I believe that having a new editorial vision will be a positive infusion of enthusiasm. I think Wolf will bring a new sensibility to the G21 that it sorely needs.

Here's the rub: He hasn't agreed to take the job yet. This article is part of my not-so-subtle way of impressing upon him that he should. I believe he's eminently qualified to be the new Captain, the leader of this ironic jazz band. I believe he'll learn and grow from the experience and produce a magazine commensurate with our heritage.

Besides, I only want to write a weekly column here. That would be FUN.

And I think you, our readers, are ready for the experience of seeing this institution grow and change. Join me in encouraging Wolf to step up to the plate.
