FAX NIKITA: Strange But TRUE

Yeah, that's Nikita alright.
FAX NIKITA
A space holder

ONLY IN CALIFORNIA:

A G21 Loyal Reader in the U.K. turns in this report: "Scientists at the University of California, at Berkeley, have determined that the world's strongest creature is a beetle, Rod. I read in the Independent that the rhino beetle can carry 100 TIMES its own weight. Think it was back in 1996 that this was reported, but you would have to check it out.

"This sounds like a definite `Fax Nikita' item to me..."

Indeed, it is. But next time send in some supporting evidence, as well. As this stands, it's only a weird rumor, NOT a weird fact.--Rod

ON THE OTHER HAND: on 14 January, 1996, the Associated Press ran over the wires the story of one Wenday Maines who passed through Versailles, NY, USA and witnessed a pack of dogs attacking a cat. Wendy, who was a former ambulance driver, AP stated, wanted to rescue the poor feline, and so stop her car and began honking her horn and slamming her door. (She didn't venture into the fray because she was pregnant at the time, the AP report says.)

Well the dogs took off into a nearby woodland, BUT there was no sign of the cat. Thinking it had fled into the woods, as well, she started to drive off.

"BUMP!"

Wendy looked into her rearview mirror and saw that she had flattened said cat.

Okay, the cat story wasn't that WEIRD, just strange and tragic. But try this one on for size:

The Japan Times reported on 11 January, 1996, that one Ryutaro Araki, aged 19, found a fragment of a meteorite in Tsukuba, Ibaraki prefecture, which is northeast of Tokyo on 7 January, 1996. According to the Times report, moments earlier, various people in the area had seen "an orange object with sparks flying from it" plummeting earthward, which looked like "a huge firework going off..." When Ibaraki picked the object up, it was still warm, according to his statement to the Times.

So thank God we have Bruce Willis ready to intercept these things!

Look what happened to the dinosaurs.
