G21 - The World's Magazine of News & Commentary
6 MARCH - 19 MARCH, 2000
EVENT 206: ANNIVERSARY WALTZ
International News and Commentary for the Thoughtful

RDR TODAY:. "Queen Elizabeth" A fresh segment to tide you over the break...
READER ALERT - The next edition of this Web magazine has been rescheduled until Sunday, 19 March. Enjoy surfing the current and archived material until we return with our "official" Anniversary Gala. -- RA
Photo of swimsuit model.A push button link.MY GLASS HOUSE: You'd think I was already out the door the way some of the writers have started to act in these parts. But I plan to at least keep the helm of the magazine through our Anniversary celebrations....ROD AMIS "Anniversary Waltz"

A push button link.MEMOIRS OF THE INFORMATION AGE: I too am a user advocate. Big Time! Since I work in Manufacturing doing programming and helping run an HP that our MRP software resides on, I am also a customer/user of our local IT network troops and help desk. (I really work in a skunk works that's sole reason for being is to get around the bottlenecks of the official IT organization.) I am not a clueless user - I've been fixing, programming and playing with computers since 1965. I am fed up with clueless network troops and powerless, unhelpful help desks...DARHL STULTZ "Tennis, Rod?"

A push button link.PLANETARY MADNESS: Miss Luna waxes waxes waxes. Before the weekend, olfactory stimulation is both scintillating and repulsive as Miss Luna lopes through Taurus; appetites grin for satiety. Over the weekend, eau-de-Gemini prompts Miss Luna to read, write, reason and chat (prolifically); Indecision could very well take her for a spin in a convertible that features a top that is stuck half-open and half-closed..... JENNIFER BLUE, "Current Forecast"

A push button link.TABLOID HART: We got Pat Robertson and Jerry ("I love Tinky Winky") Falwell with their panties all in a twist over Senator John McCain calling them forces of Evil; we got George Dubya acting all righteous about campaign tactics; we got Al Gore doin' the macarena on Bill Bradley's face. Politics in America! It's any dumpster divers dream, ya'll!... THOMAS HART "Stupor Tuesday"
A push button link.DAY ONE: When the American political cycle is more predictable than its climate there is something wrong with both. It is easy enough to see that 22 inches of snow in Raleigh, North Carolina, in a single day must be classified as an iconic manifestation of unpredictability. At the same time, the political weather followed a familiar course. The primaries opened with all four major candidates attacking 'insider' Washington politics; coming from two Senators, a Vice President and the son of a President this was despicable enough to disqualify all four on the simple ground of humbug. ....KEVIN CAREY, "Super Tuesday"

A push button link.RECOMMENDED DAILY REQUIREMENT: So I have to accept that I must step back. We need new blood, not only in terms of writers and contributors, but also to keep our editorial vision "living." We need a new editor. And I have somebody in mind...ROD AMIS "Omega."

RDR 03.06.00: Notorious Libertarian WOLF DE VOON defends the welfare state? You saw it here first. "In Print"

RDR 03.07.00:. RADIO RAHEEM has advice for our Editor-in-Waiting. "Be Careful What You Wish For"

RDR 03.08.00:. ROD on his inner life and being ambushed by women... "The Difficult Kind"

RDR 03.09.00:. MORE on ROD's inner life. "Becky Brand"

RDR 03.11.00:. "Peggy Runs the Show" Another installment in the saga.

A push button link.POWERSSOUND: The question: Do we really need five more albums of Sonny Rollins hits from the past? Answer: Yes, with some qualms.

"The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD, Third Edition" (perhaps the best book of its kind) lists a total of 43 Rollins albums in print.... BOB POWERS, "Sonny Rollins At His Best"
A space holder.

"Packed up and moved out after all
Bulldozed the house and watched it fall
That blessed sight I still recall!
NOW I CAN SING MY SONG AGAIN!
IT DON'T HURT LIKE IT DID
(It hurts worse. Who do I kid?...)" --- Sheryl Crow
