EVENT # 243: MAN OUT OF TIME

A photo of beauty. The most important thing in the world is love. The meaning of Life is new life.

NO! We're not getting spacey on you! But there has to be balance... This is the best way to ease you into the HARD stories we need to tell this week.

As we enter this season of Promise, The World's Magazine takes another look at how the world can be a very cold and compassionless place. We can change that, you and I...

TODAY'S RDR: RADIO RAHEEM tells us about his Thanksgiving. "Chittlins and Possum Gravy" -- PLUS our Pick of the Day and the Readership Poll (Celebrity comes from... ?)
RECOMMENDED DAILY REQUIREMENT: This is the inside story of a very controversial topic. The writer has no affiliation with any newspaper groups or political parties and so can write freely without editorial or other pressure (to date) to "not mention that part, please".

The writer's opinion is just that - opinion. But remember, there are no facts in the world, just opinions and illusions and opinions (and statistics). Nobody is right - Nobody is wrong. This is the writer's point of view.

This week read:

  • Are foreign female journalists simply neurotic about sex?
  • Kidnapped Children bonded in Slavery
  • Mum & Dad sell young Sally to the whoremarket.

POWERSSOUND: Michael Feinstein first burst into the national consciousness in 1986, when Liza Minnelli helped sponsor his New York debut. Two years later he starred in a successful Broadway show called, "Isn't It Romantic." Fame finally arrived.

Feinstein grew up in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Bexley and was a frequent performer in Columbus theater. His prowess as a pianist kept him busy in piano bars. However, it was his singing voice that would finally move him into the bright lights of Broadway... BOB POWERS "Feinstein Set Simply Superb" More

MEMOIRS OF THE INFORMATION: A little noted story in the New York Times on Thanksgiving Day will most likely be oft-quoted after this holiday season. It was about the Labor movement making another in-road into the New Economy.

Memoirs Logo. The more adroit journalists noted, last year, Labor success with the engineers at Boeing. The next big story will be based on whether Labor succeeds in unionizing sectors of e-commerce leader Amazon.com... ROD AMIS "Becoming the Third Wave 2"More

DAY ONE: Latahasi, Democratic Republic of Impovria - After more than a week of recrimination and legal skirmishing the final result of the Presidential election in this impoverished central African state is still in doubt. With almost all the results in the two candidates, Mr. Blood of the Democratic Front and Mr. Thicket of the Republican Alliance, are neck and neck but the outcome in Bamboo Province is still in doubt... KEVIN CAREY "Impovria" More

THE SEX COLUMN: ED CANTARELLA: I really wanted to do some serious point-counterpoint with our resident "Deacon in the Church of Sex". Problem was, I didn't know where to start.

All that negativity on interaction with the opposite sex; several failed marriages; espousing infidelity like it was the Holy Grail of pleasant human interaction; utter disregard of disease risk factors, and --- last but not least --- no love. Yes, "LUV." Some of us still believe in the concept of a Significant Other and think that THAT is one of the optimal mediums for a happy, healthy sex life...

CHARLIE THE TUNA: I get a big kick out of the "rebuttals" to the wisdom I share with young guys still out here in the sexual minefield. Usually these "rebuttals" come from pussy-whipped bozos acting as surrogates for their iron-lipped Haus Frau, if you know what I mean.

Can't you just see it? "How can you let that degenerate say things about US like that, Jim?" "Us?" What us is she talking about? a Real Man, without a ring through his nose, would ask, "Or do you have a mouse in your pocket?" ... But not Apron-string Boy.

He mewls, "Should I write a rebuttal, de-e-ear?" Then he lowers his head like all bottoms do.... "Filing Her Nails..." More

The Dublin Monaghan Bombings

JOE O'NEILL

Cover of Dublin Monaghan. When there's a little British MI5, M16, secret undercover British army intelligence units, R.U.C. Intelligence personnel, Loyalist death squads, Irish army intelligence, Garda Síochána investigators, and then you throw in thirty three murders, stir it all up --- one would think that it would be an excellent recipe for a fiction thriller. But one would be wrong.

All of these non-fiction ingredients are incorporated in a new book by the editor of Eyewitness Bloody Sunday: The Truth, Don Mullan, in a new work which examines the case of the Dublin Monaghan Bombings in 1974. The bombings claimed the lives of 33 people. The book, The Dublin Monaghan Bombings The Truth, the questions and the victim's stories, published by Wolfhound Press is now available in bookstores in Ireland.... More

The Liddy Tape

JOE O'NEILL

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Joe O'Neill, the author of this article, is a G21 Alumnus who has reported for the Irish Echo and Irish Herald. Mr. O'Neill was G21's first reporter on Northern Ireland issues, inaugurating our IRISH EYES coverage. We are pleased to welcome him back to these pages. Months back, he offered G21 the Liddy tape, which is now part of a Blair Administration new investigation into "Bloody Sunday" (January, 1972.) What follows is Mr. O'Neill's continued coverage of that tragic event.--RA]

A recently discovered tape recording of a dramatic eyewitness account of Bloody Sunday (when 14 Irish civil rights marchers were murdered by British paratroopers) that lay stored in a basement for the last 28 years, has been entered as evidence in the new Bloody Sunday Tribunal.

The tape, which was stored in the basement of former San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist, Dan O'Neill's, Nevada City home after he made a trip to Ireland in 1972, was rediscovered during a basement clean-up.

John Barry Liddy, who participated in the Bloody Sunday civil rights march, is interviewed on the recording as he lay injured in his home waiting for an ambulance...More

G21 Interview: Dr. Yuri Pines, Hebrew University, Jerusalem

FAYCAL FALAKY

DR. PINES: The US media is more often than not very simplistic, depicting every ethnic or political conflict as a confrontation between the bad and the good guys.

So is it possible that when they realize that Israelis are not "good guys" they will turn every Israeli and every Jew into a "bad guy"?

I hope this would not be the case.

What is important for me, and for peace-loving Israelis, is to let the West understand the complexity of the current situation. Today, pressing on Israel to agree for the deployment of multi-national forces in the occupied territories, pressing to dismantle the settlements and threatening to cut economic ties with Israel are not anti-Israeli steps, but serve the long-term interest of the Israeli people. It is better to make certain painful steps today and prevent the great pain of the war in the future.

So, you may be pro-Jewish, and even pro-Israeli, and still anti-occupation, anti-war, anti-Israeli government. The sooner the West realizes [this fact] the better for all of us here, Israelis and Palestinians alike...More

Capital Punishment: Texas to Kenya

ROBERT O'DOUL

It is not always that events in the United States or elsewhere in the First World sway on-going discourse in distant places like East Africa. Yet, this is exactly what recent reports of the pending execution of a convict in the state of Texas for crimes committed in the early 1980s and the execution, a few months ago, of 36-year-old convicted African American killer, Gary Graham, in Huntsville, Texas for the 1981 murder of 53-year-old Bobby Lambert outside a Houston supermarket, have done.

Only a week after Parliament in Kenya threw out a motion by human rights lawyer and opposition member of Parliament, Mr Kiraitu Murungi, to outlaw capital punishment, these reports have again forcefully re-directed debate onto the issue of the suitability of judicial execution as a deterrent to violent crimes and other capital offences...More

Man Out of Time

ROD AMIS

It crosses my mind to think about some to the nick-names I've been given over the years. There's been Limborock, Rodya, Roderick, Hippie, Junkie, The Ghost Who Walks, Houdini, repeated uses of the RA/Ra with connotations from Egyptian mythology, Mr. Swinging Lifestyle, Rotney, Von Braunschweiger, Chief, Loser, Pretty Eyes, PubMan (Well, that one was self-promoted, I'll admit,) Wise One...

You've been keeping to yourself these days
Because you think everything's gone wrong.
Sometimes you want to lay down and die,
That emotion can be so strong.
But hold on!...
'Til that old Second Wind comes along
