EVENT # 248: G MONEY
|
| DAY ONE: Whether it is because of A Christmas Carol, the habitual appearance around Christmas of W.C. Fields as Mr. Micawber or simply because I take a few days off work at a time of year which lends itself to cosy, domestic pursuits, it is my custom between mid-December and mid-January to read three Dickens novels.
It might be thought that familiarity with their plots would prompt me to skip some of the digressions but the opposite is the case; each time I re-read a work I take more time over the detail. This season, with Little Dorritt still to read, I have been concentrating on social history rather than on the central plots.
Nicholas Nickleby, like David Copperfield, has some excellent portrayals of bourgeois and petit bourgeois life but my interest has been most taken by the role of money in Dombey and Son, where there are fine descriptions of the very rich and the very poor... KEVIN CAREY "POVERTY" More
Aggregation is part of the "Me, too!" Syndrome.
What we just might find, as the Shake-out means less and building a good business model means more, is that "branding" has been misdefined and that having an independent, unique voice that builds loyalty for your enterprise (an Old School rule) still matters...ROD AMIS "The Rush to Aggregate: Think Twice" More
Rod just decided not to give you a teaser this week. It's his "printing press." We can't force him to play along every week.... |
PERSON OF THE YEARROD AMIS
Love her or hate her, Ms. Clinton is now an historical first as the First Lady who went on to national elective office and who some people are already talking about as a future Presidential candidate, perhaps our first woman President of the United States. Maybe, we decided here, our readers are onto something. ... More
It's tough, my fellow Sanitation Engineers, to determine whether the new year of dirt should start with Courtney Love or Madonna. The Ultimate Trailer Trash Dirt on Celebrity Slut Smackdown, right?
BUT Get this! In a true trailer trash original, Courtney is being stalked by a woman. How can you not love this?...More
One way of doing that is buying our "stuff." Wear it, drink from it, click over it.

POWERSSOUND: Drummer Dave Weckl came into prominence when he played with Chick Corea's popular Electrik Band. A native of St. Louis, Weckl got a young start in music, performing on drums at age 8. He studied jazz at the University of Bridgeport for two years. Soon he was doing session work and appeared on pop albums with Diana Ross, Madonna and Robert Plant, to drop a few familiar names.
With his new album, Weckl reports about the changes taking place within and for the band. "Transition" (Stretch Records) makes official the break between Weckl and his long-time cohort, Jay Oliver. The new band, which features the talented Steve Weingart on keyboards, creates a sound that is very much in the pulse of today's modern jazz sound, but offers enough of a difference to make the band stick out... BOB POWERS "Weckl Makes Good Transition" More
By "people" I mean enterprises like this one. Non-governmental and non-profit organizations, and just regular folks concerned with the future of our species.
They launched on 4 January, 2001, but have been in communication with G21: The World Magazine since last autumn. They invited us to be one of their original Partners. We invite you to visit them when you're not with us. It makes sense.
