ALEXANDRIA, VA, USA - Two Sundays ago, the U.S. National Security Advisor, Condoleezza Rice, told Tim Russert during a vile exchange on the "Meet The Press" television show that the White House might push a new U.N. plan to force a confrontation with Saddam Hussein and that it was becoming more obvious that the Iraqi president would not disarm voluntarily. She severely admonished the U.N. for letting Hussein get away with not bowing to U. S. demands. She continued to flagellate the UN by indicating that the administration had not drafted a new resolution proposal but "...we're working it with different parties . . . with our friends."
The U.S., she added with terse enmity, was ready to go to war with or without U.N. support and putting an attack off is not an option. She concluded her bellicose remarks announcing that the hew and cry about a war upon the Iraqi nation was inevitable.
After 2+ years of continuing chaos, turmoil and barbaric behavior on the part of government officials, it is now time for all Americans to rebel by getting involved in the business of their national government. Many of the current members of the Bush administration came to power through a clandestine plan to subvert our democracy and perpetrate an unlawful fraud on centuries-old rights enjoyed through our Constitution... BATON ROUGE, LA, USA - INTRODUCTION: The excerpt, below, is from the new book, My Soul Said to Me, the story of Robert E. Roberts and the pioneering prison re-entry program he developed called Project Return.
Bob Roberts turned his back on a lucrative dental practice, left his family and his hometown, to teach literacy in prison. For three years, he learned first-hand about the deprivations and degradations of America's penal institutions. His program was so successful at reducing inmate violence that corrections officials conspired to shut it down and get rid of Roberts... MORE

MARIETTA, OH, USA - The Grim Reaper has been tough on jazz musicians in the past few years and the recent death of cornet genius Ruby Braff seems a particularly large loss. Braff, whose albums have been released in a steady stream for many years, left this Earth still maintaining his lofty reputation. At 76, Braff seemed like a youngster in a crowd of fantastic musicians who seemed destined for better achievements.
Personally, the death leaves me feeling especially down in the dumps. A few years ago, when "Powerssound" was still a newbie with G21, I received a lovely letter from Braff thanking me for my words of praise for an Arbors Records release. Although only a few sentences, that note made me proud indeed. Ruby Braff, wherever you are now, I hope you'll know how happy that brief message made me. It encouraged me to feel worthy of writing about the wonderful world of jazz ... MORE

NEW ORLEANS - 21 February, 2003: I should have started writing you yesterday or earlier today, my love, but I was surfing like crazy and answering all my e-mails. My phone will be shut off tomorrow, more than likely, so I was trying to enjoy the luxury of having access at home. I'm not really certain when I'll be able to get the phone reconnected again. Maybe after Mardi Gras if I can put the ducats together. It was fun while it lasted ...
There is so much I wish to say to you this week, as I'm uncertain when I shall have the time to write again. Tonight, though, I find it difficult to organize my thoughts. There are so many things I have to do this weekend in addition to tending bar, that I feel a sense of overwhelm again. I have new writers in queue and that's always a special pressure. I promised Scott I'd run some files across town to Kinko's for him in the morning. I haven't done my laundry yet. The landlord, the electric company, the phone company all need money from me. It's just not a pretty time in my life.
But it's also not a pretty time in the life of the world, is it?

NEW YORK, NY, USA - I love New York. I love living in New York. There is no place that I would rather be. That includes during these times of trouble when it could be considered unsafe to live in New York. Because - let's face it - if the terrorists want to attack the United States again they're not going to strike in Minnesota.
It's true what they say about New York, "If you can make I there, you can make it anywhere." The problem is these terrorists don't realize a lot of shows start out-of-state and then are brought to Broadway. They want the big time now and that's New York. The problem is I don't think the new Office of Homeland Security realizes this because they give generic terror warnings that are fit for people living in Kansas rather New York City.
Last week they reported there might be another attack on New York with a "dirty" nuclear bomb that would spread radiation through the city. Is that supposed to scare me? I've been breathing New York air for years. How much worse could it be?
Since when are we distinguishing between the cleanliness of Nuclear Bombs? Is a Dirty Nuclear Bomb not designed to kill but only to mess up the city enough that Felix Unger and the rest of the Neat Freaks really get upset? Do you actually need a clean Nuclear Bomb to obliterate the City totally? Well you could never obliterate the city totally because the rats and cockroaches in the subways will live forever....MORE
