Berkeley, CA, USA - Bernie Marcus does a lot of good with his money. The Atlanta philanthropist invests a lot of his money in improving the quality of life for Jews and non-Jews alike. In many ways, Marcus illustrates the apex of Maimonides' Eight Degrees of Tzedekah. He gives generously and freely without demanding of his beneficiaries.
But not all of Bernie Marcus' money goes to causes that are in the best interest of Jews. It was recently announced that he had given $26,000 to the Lt. Gov campaign of Ralph Reed. Yes, that Ralph Reed. What's wrong with the picture of a prominent Jewish citizen giving generously to the campaign of Ralph Reed? Plenty. ... READ MORE
G21 WORLD HQ - Once again we went to the Members of the World's Magazine Mailing List with an attempt to get responses to a positive question --- and ONCE AGAIN we fell flat on our face(s).
We thought that by asking people to talk about the people in their lives and communities who they felt mattered most, we might hit some pay dirt. Instead, as with our first attempt at the non-negative poll at the beginning of the year, our List members responded with a collective yawn.

Below you'll find the five significant people in the lives of those of your fellow Loyal Readers who did deem to respond.
At the end of the sample, please find our Editor's choices and our next Poll question. Enjoy! ... READ MORE

She doesn't see me as a superior person and I have no idea what the "first" book was like but this one is a dictionary of words that I (and maybe even you, dear erudite reader) have not heard of or read before.
Shortly after my first perusal of this novel lexicon, I visited a friend of mine who keeps Greyhounds. I was at the receiving end of a funny look when I referred to his Laaba. It's a storage platform high enough to be above the reach of animals.
Now when reminiscing about my intense, teenage desire to run away from home I speak of my Drapetomania.
During the same decade I had a habit of mistaking things for my own but it seems harmless enough in hindsight, especially when described as a tendency to Nostrificate. ... READ MORE
