Exhaustion washed over her as she lay down on the bed, arms outstretched by her sides. The suffering of spirit had crushed her will and life seemed anchored to her body by the merest of thin thread.
The only option or thought was that suicide was sane. The struggle to maintain a hold on life had ebbed, leaving only the dense awareness of the heaviness of the body. To let go, to simply fall the last distance into the anonymous void, was seductive.
The bed provided support for the gravity-driven mass of flesh, de-animated of volition and any choice. No choice was the clarity that came and went in a millisecond of final resignation. And despite knowing there is no god or goddess, that it was just more imagination running away with her frail mind, the impulse to let go consumed her. Every cell seemed to give way, to float and expand in a nonphysical world. "Just take me, I don't care", was the last thing she thought before being engulfed in an endless, borderless eternal sea of undifferentiated atoms spinning and spinning in a mad dance. Disembodied and floating in nowhere, a peace bath held her suspended as the ocean holds the flotsam and jetsam that offers no resistance.
