COVER -> MY GLASS HOUSE
It's because I've gone back to being a columnist at my Day Job again (on top of my editorial duties for newsletters) and *lots* has been going on behind the scenes with The World's Magazine. Most of it is good. (That's a real change!)
Being a Web Editor and Publisher is not a job for the faint-hearted, and certainly not one for people who require a great deal of sleep. You have to be ready to deal with server crises (Yeah, I know. We were down for over eight hours on Saturday.) and interpersonal relationships with people you have never met face-to-face (f2f). And, on occasion, you have to be willing to take it on the chin.
I'm actually quite happy with our new relationship with Bla-bla.com, though. They seem like good people genuinely willing to support independent Web publishing. Wish us all luck!
And then there's our involvement with the MediaChannel, which you probably noted if you scroll down to review our entire cover. Like us, they are committed to alternative journalism and alternative ways of being part of the mad monster we call "the media." I expect good things from this association.
And --- oh yeah --- in my "spare time" I plan to look after my health, as I've said for weeks now.

BOB POWERS does a great job this week, as per usual, by pointing us to a lost concert from the legendary Stan Kenton. Luckily, for you and me, he got a great assist from the publisher on this one. If you're a jazz-lover, you'd be weird not to cash in on this boon from POWERSSOUND.ED CANTARELLA posted a very provocative RDR submission today that I found surprising. I'm not sure if he's trying to become on new "On Drugs" columnist or what.
Meanwhile, the Usual Suspects keep on keeping on. Let us know if you enjoy the slant we're taking these days or if you expect us to transform again.
Meanwhile, Back at The Ranch
I know, I know: Do the tests and X-rays, Rod!Believe me, I'm on it. This week.... I think.
BUT tomorrow I have to have a teleconference with my boss. AND I need to start producing columns for IT Manager's Journal again. AND I'm about to launch three new newsletters for Andover.net this month. AND I need to find an accountant and figure out when to cash in my stock options.... AND my Assistant is trying to vet my next (and additional) assistant which means we have to buy another chair to squeeze into my tiny apartment.
The Good News is: new tech for the magazine. Some possible assistance on my Web design chores.
I'm even making headway on paying off my IRS bill.
Compared to where I was last year at this time, this is all good news.
THINGS THAT BOTHER ME THIS WEEK
1. Budgetting a potential trip back to California.2. Blood tests and X-rays.
3. Determining if I move to another state in the next few months.

ROD AMIS has published this magazine since 1990. It first appeared as a hardcopy 'Zine. In March, 1996, he launched it here on the Web. Rod was a Contributing Editor at Suite101.com, where he wrote the " 'Net Publishing" feature. His work has been featured in the San Francisco Bay Guardian Online, NRV8, and at WebLab's Reality Check site. Rod was also a contributing writer on technology for Faulkner Information Services.
Rod was a columnist for the Andover News Network, where he wrote over two hundred articles on web design and development issues. He is also principal writer and Editor for IT Manager's Journal, where he reviews technology issues weekly. He became the Managing Editor for Electronic Mail/Newsletter Publications at Andover.net at the end of February, 2000.
