G21 INSIDER

Three Years Young

Publisher's Note

New York - 8 March, 1999: I noticed while editing this Edition that I am so excited about March being our anniversary month that last week's Publisher's Note erroneously had a dateline of "9 March, 1999" --- it should have said "2 March, 1999." Apologies. I guess I was so anxious to move this month along that I got a little carried away.

Though, thinking about it, I shall personally turn 47 as this Internet version of the magazine turns 3, so I have damned little reason to want to rush things along!

Very obviously, The World's Magazine is geared toward an Adult audience, our content and even our look should say that.... Still, the way political winds have been blowing these days, I have been tempted to put some sort of voluntary rating on the "splash page" or cover of this site to make our "rating" eminently clear. I militate against doing that because it strikes me as redundancy. Write in and let me know your feelings on the matter....

THREE YEARS YOUNG - I have had a lot of time to think this week about where we are going as a Web magazine as we approach our fourth year of publication. I don't think we shall ever go back to publishing daily, if for no reason than that my work as a columnist keeps me too busy. There certainly isn't the budget in these parts for anyone to take over the design and editing chores I do each Edition...

Another site made on a Macintosh More importantly, I *don't* want to give up that much control of "my baby." It would feel odd to do so after all the money, sleepless nights, the gingerly handling of the MASSIVE EGOS of the writers which I have invested here.

The good news is that our "numbers" (the amount of traffic coming to this site) have never been higher in our history than they are now. That means our latest mix of reader-generated and columnist content appears to work for you. Most importantly, from my perspective, the number of page-views per visitor has increased. You are sticking around.

For the first time ever, we are actually beginning to generate revenue from sources other than Rod's Hip Pocket.

I get to poll the writers later today as to whether our little cooperative simply divvies up the proceeds from last quarter's ad revenue, or if they'll give me dispensation to plow it back into the mag'. (More software, a possible hardware upgrade, maybe some marketing and promotions in other media.)

So, the G-Crew has a lot to be thankful for as we lurch toward our Third Anniversary Edition. And most of all, we can be thankful for you Loyal Readers, who find value in the satire, humor, news and commentary that we have to offer. We thank you heartily for keeping faith in our vision of a better future for all people.

ABOUT THIS EDITION:

We have SIX (6) new features for you in this Edition.

THOMAS HART has quite a rant to perform as part of his latest offering of the Dish over in TABLOID HART. ADAM J. SMITH waxes rhapsodic about the New Politics of Minnesota Gov. JESSE VENTURA. I actually return to DAY ONE after featuring special guest writers from around the globe. FAX NIKITA is back with more of YOUR Strange but True arcana. And there's more!

Thanks for coming back this week.

We're glad you're here. We have a lot to offer this (and EVERY) week. Stick around. More importantly: TELL EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS. We want you here EVERY DAY.

WHY?

Because we like you...

Work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
Dance like no one is watching,
Rod
