Publisher's Note

New York - 1 April, 1999: You get to sleep.

I recall what sleeping was like. I remember the luxury of dreams.

In my dreams, my ex-wife and old lovers would come to me as my anima. They would give me advice or taunt me, depending on the evening's activities.

Strange, but I never dreamt about women with whom I was not intimate.

There is one exception... I dreamt about a woman for a year before I met her. When I met her, my jaw dropped because she was more beautiful than even in the dream.

She took me dancing at a George Clinton concert and listened to my silly babble, afterwards, about there being magick in the world. She told me that I was the happiest man she had met here in the States.

And then, on my advice, she flew back to Scotland.

Yes, my foot is still wounded. Yes, I sold the gun.

I took the pledge I envy you the ability to sleep.

If I'm not mistaken, which I may be lacking sleep as I do, the reason we put that image of Hillary Clinton on the cover is because we discovered --- that's the "Editorial We," (It was actually Raheem, thanks and a tip of the hat) --- that she's a pundit now as well as an aspiring politician.

That means she competes with me for eyeballs....

Another site made on a Macintosh Spring has sprung here in Manhattan. The trees in the park in front of my building have leaflings. They are working on the park, watering the shrubs, cleaning the gazebo. People spend more time outside on the stoop.

I live for spring.... If I could get some sleep I would enjoy this weather. I've been in shirt sleeves for days now, when I can stop working, when I go outside to take a break, when I pull myself from this Memory Machine.

When the horrific e-mails stop.
