Q - What is the MOIA Discussion List?

A - The MOIA Discussion List is a moderated electronic mail e-zine associated with the G21 feature Memoirs of the Information Age. Though some of its content will focus on discussion generated from MOIA weekly articles, its focus will also include discussion of Internet trends, news and developments. The purpose of the list is intelligent discussion of how the Internet, and specifically the Web, is affecting our lives and futures.

Unlike the G21 Mailing List, which is a notification list, the MOIA Discussion List is participatory. Digests of posts are e-mailed to list members on a weekly basis.

Our hope is to generate the type of insights and initiatives which will help shape the future of this medium. The original list members were invited to opt in by Rod Amis, technology journalist and G21 publisher, on Wednesday, 22 September, 1999. At this writing the list has approximately 200 Charter Members. They are international, and 90% of the charter members work for technology companies, IT departments, and universities.

Q - Is participation in the MOIA discussion list by invitation only?

A - No. Now that the core discussion group has been established membership in the list is open to the public. In order subscribe to the discussion list, simply send an e-mail with the "Subject" line "SUBSCRIBE TO MOIA" to rod@g21.net. Instructions for list participation will be forewarded to you.

Q - Will my name or e-mail address be revealed if I join the MOIA list?

A - No. The identities and e-mail addresses of members of the MOIA Discussion list are not shared with any person or organization. List members identities are known only to Rod Amis, the list moderator. Members reveal their identities and e-mail addresses on a completely voluntary basis.

Q - What is the Privacy Policy of the MOIA Discussion List?

A - PRIVACY POLICY: Subscribers on this list have opted in and their names and e-mail addresses will not be shared with any person or organization. All posters are responsible for and own the information they provide to the list. Posts will not be used by the list owner ("MOIA") without the expressed permission of the poster. Members, as a matter of Netiquette, should not reproduce posts without the permission of the member posting. Those who do so will be removed from our group.

Q - How do I unsubscribe from the MOIA list?

A - Leaving the list is as easy as joining it. The only difference is that you must send a request to be removed from the list to the private list address, provided for you at the time you join.

Q - Will the list always be moderated and supplied only in digest form?

A - Always is a mighty long time. Our Winking `Smiley'. For now the list is moderated and supplied in digest because that is the wish of the majority of the charter members. Most members are busy professionals and don't have the time or inclination to be flooded with individual posts. Also, moderation minimizes the risk of Flame Wars developing.

If, at some future date, the membership chooses to go to some more open and public forum (E-Groups was considered at the outset.) the list can always migrate.
