Will there ever be a Woman head coach in the N.B.A.? I DOUBT IT!

First, is there really a need for one?

Not really.

With two professional Women's basketball leagues existing , there is plenty of opportunity for Women to coach at the professional level. A few of the top College and professional women coaches are definitely knowledgeable and capable of diagramming the X's and O's at the men's professional level, but the NBA is focused on making the Women's league successful in it's own right. Women's professional basketball will succeed this time around. Look for the Professional Women's Basketball League to fold and merge its players and coaches and popular franchises into the WNBA. Similar to how the now-defunct ABA, American Basketball Association, became part of the NBA nearly 30 years ago.

On a sadder note for the ladies, don't look for comparable salaries; it won't happen. As in society and Woman's golf, the compensation will be about one fourth of what they're paying the men, and that is for the Superstars. The subs and scrubs will make barley enough to buy that dream house and put food on the table for the little ones.

Mark McGwire, Home Run King"THE BIG MAC ATTACK" is back! - Well it's here, the comparisons. the hype the loss of hair.(Think About: Roger Maris' sudden hair loss from the media barrage he received the year he broke Ruth's record.) Mark McGwire is making it all real because the man has showed up to play. Will he break Roger Maris' record of 61 dingers in a season? Yes he will. This is his year, he has been waiting for it, baseball has been waiting for it, fate has been waiting for it. Hell, he would have done it last year(58 homers,) if he hadn't sustain so many injuries that kept him out of the line-up for over a month.

But last year he might have broken the record by a homer or two. This year he may shatter the record by 10 to 15 homers. As of today he is on course to hit 81 homers, if he keeps up the pace he is on. He won't keep this pace and he will be walked every chance a team can afford to walk him, but he will still shatter the record. Because baseball has seen nothing like this man when it comes to hitting home runs.

He is focused and he now has an incredible eye and awareness at the plate, unlike his early years, that you can't teach someone. They either got it or they don't.

Much like Magic Johnson's court sense in basketball, a home run hitter is in his own zone and he is oblivious to his surroundings, his team mates, his fans. He has one focus that little white ball, and his job is to hit it out of the field of play. In McGwire's case, [the] focus is unmatched. To increase his success, his strength is unmatched. He can hit a bad pitch to the opposite field for a home run, taking a half swing and relying on the strength of his wrist and forearms. Still the ball carries out 430 feet. The man is unreal and focused.

We can never knock "The Babe," but if I was choosing up teams in the sand lot, and I saw a red headed kid name McGwire standing there, and a large punchy kid name Herman, with a reputation of a perfect swing, I would have a difficult time choosing between the two.

Something refreshing about McGwire is that he is a class act. He stayed with the St. Louis Cards even though he could have become the highest paid free agent in baseball, all because he loved the reception the fans gave to him when he joined the team. We're talking passing up an extra 4 to 5 million a year people! A humble man brushing off any comparisons to Ruth or the other legends of the game. A man who also gives a million dollars of his salary to battered kids. It is good to see an athlete with class every now and again.

Sports: don't they send a chill up your spine?

As I sit here and type, across the wire comes word McGwire just hit another bomber. 25 before the month of June. Amazing. WE ARE NOT WORTHY! WE ARE NOT WORTHY!

The "Big Three": People will argue when it comes to sports that it's only necessary to cover the "Big Three". Football, Basketball, and Baseball, and I agree that these are the Big Three, but sports --- and the coverage there of --- has a lot more depth then the big three.

Speaking for the Homers

To think of the millions of athletes and coaches, both female and male, that participate in the thousands of hours of practices, in any weather condition imaginable; to think of the dedication and the perseverance that a track star or a tennis player, swimmer, archer, field hockey player, gymnast, jockey, soccer player, la crosse player, or any other athlete gives to his or her sport is what makes sports so special. As "Wide World of Sports" use to lead off its broadcast, every saturday night, "...the spirit of competition, the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat...", the terms that raise the hair of every athlete and every fan, because they apply to every sport. Not the just the big three, but any sport where the participants [have] dedicated their youth, their bodies and minds, to reach that height, to participate in the hope of success. Success is participating, as an athlete or the fan in the stands rooting for them.

Yes, Wort will focus [his commentary] on the Big Three because there is so much to report, but Wortman has a place in his heart for any dedicated individual that puts his butt on the line day after day for the love of the game. I will cover the no names as best I can.

This is Wally, saying "Go for it!"

"Don't forget to Flush!"
