SUBJECT: Ref: Christmas at Casa de Caca
Rod; my question is not if your going to move to Houston or move in with Artcamp people I want to know; who's opening for DR. John? Remember if you move to Texas Texmex gets old fast, and can't compare to good Cajon.
Timothy M
ROD RESPONDS: Timothy, I could practically live on burritos I love them so much! I've missed them greatly since leaving Ess Eff. Besides, you can only eat so much red beans and rice.
Easter Egg Hunt WAIT! Could this be the notorious g21 easter egg? ![]()
As you can see from my place-line this week, Houston was deferred. I'll be in Nawlins until the Spring.
From Melanio L. (No City or Country Provided):
Subject: Lani Hall Review
You gave her a review but did not give info as to which retail store carries her newest album "brasil nativo" If you really are serious in giving her a review, then at least mention a few cd stores that carry her new album.........mel
BOB POWERS RESPONDS: This review ran approximately three years ago, making it very unlikely that the CD is still available.
From Giuseppe G., Forti, ITALY:
Subject: Lenin
Dear Natalia Abakanovitch,
I have read your interesting articleYoung & New, that I found on the net (G21.net). I am very interested in details of the cult of Lenin, especially songs, feelings, the Lenin corners etc.
Could you please write down for me the Russian words of the song you mentioned? ("Lenin will always live,/"Lenin will always give,/"Help in the moments when life is hard./"Lenin -- the hope we see in spring so bright and free,/"Lenin's in you and in me.")
Is that song by Tulikov?
I was told that in Soviet Union you had sort of Lenin Carols, too, where was described the very birth of Vl. Il'ich in conditions similar to the ones in where Jesus Christ was born. Is that true? Do you know "Lenin carols"?
Thanks in advance,(Please answer in Russian)
Giuseppe G
ROD RESPONDS: Giuseppe, thanks for visiting G21 and for writing. I've passed your query on to Natalia for a possible response.

Subject: Smelly Stuff.......
HI Rod. Sorry mate but ye got me goin' again buddy!!!
Just read ....... Who Nose by Mattie Lennon G21 Humorist & Balladeer It's funny, you nose? In Thailand - not for tourists but for Thais and "locals" - the way to kiss is to put your head on the side of somebody's neck, start sniffing deeply and work you way up, over their face, their forehead..... ears..... etc..... then.......... down, down...... keep on sniffin'............ whooooooooooooooooooooo!!! No bullshit. The REAL Thai kiss is this big sniffing thing, mouth kissing is not local at all....... Recently, when my Thai missus and I were about to split up (we didn't), the first/main thing she said to me, in Thai, was "you won't smell my stuff or me in here any more". Common Thai phrase. Great article from Khun Mattie.......... hey, my family has roots in Eire.....
regards
Kim

Subject: Another Note for Rod
Just had to tell you that the new issue is excellent, even without my presence. And your column is a gem. You still can do it when the muse is boiling. One comment, if I might (and how the hell are you going to stop me). I think Mexico is a very bad idea. I've seen two many bad movies about innocent Yanks disappearing south of the border. I'm serious. Don't go. Let a day trip satisfy your hunger. You can't be a publisher if your body is stuffed in aÝcave "south of the border, down Mexico way" (an old song). The psychologist seems a find. Will she write on a regular basis? Now if only Jeff Winbush make a contribution once in a while.
Happy New Year!
Bob
From Kim C., Koh Samui, THAILAND:
Subject: Readership Survey
Hi Rod........ Hope I'm not too late on this. Just now recovering from the festive haze in my head.
"1 - Do you like/dislike our new cover design? Please explain?"
It's simple. Fast loader. And I love the image of the woman's lower leg with the high heels and barbed wire.
Way I see it; this is how it is with projected female sexuality in the west - look but don't touch!
"2 - What are your thoughts and feelings about the coming year, 2002?"
Complex issue. I have great hopes. I have great fears. I think of the WHOLE world as my home.
I don't know what to think, my feelings are mixed highs on both sides of the road.
"3 - Who would you nominate for The World's Magazine 'Person of the Year' slot?"
Me. Because I am still alive and that's a big fucking surprise!
Best wishes for you, your family and friends for the new year.

Subject: Trademark
Goodmorning, Rod
I would like to ask you a question regarding trademark.
My son came up with a slogan/acroynm to combat the TEEN tobacoo smokers called "DUCK". (DAM YOU CIGERETTS KILLERS) silent slogan - they use "Tobacco is Foul"
HE DID THIS AT A TEEN CAMP CONFERENCE. THEY HAVE CREATED A ANIMATED DUCK CARTON CHARACTER USING CHRIS ROCK BROTHER VOICE.
THE DUCK CAMPAIGN STARTED OUT WITH 4MILLION. I FOUND THIS INFO OUT ON THE NEWS LAST YEAR- I WAS SHOCKED.
CAN WE SUE THEM TO PAY US FOR THE USE OF THE DUCK SLOGAN. (RADIO & TV COMMERCIALS, BILL BOARD SIGNS ARE UP AROUND THE STATE OF TEXAS. IT WAS SUPPOSE TO GO STATE WIDE.
BACK IN SEPT 2000 THEY WANTED US TO SIGN THIS SLOGAN OVER TO THEM BUT WE DIDN'T
NOW THEY ARE SELLING BACKPACKS,T-SHIRT, PENS, ...CHECK OUT THE WEB SITE WWW.DUCKTEXAS.COM LISTING ITEMS FOR SALE -PLUS BOOKCOVERS IN THE SCHOOLS.
CAN THEY USE THE SLOGAN WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION?
SINCERELY A MOTHER IN DISTRESS
LINDA W.
ROD RESPONDS: Ms. W.,Thanks for visiting G21 and for writing. I'm sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation. At the same time, I'm not certain why you address your question to me. I would think you'd be better advised to consult an attorney. I'm not an attorney, so I can't provide you with legal advice.
Best Regards,
