To whom it may concern:
I just read an article by an apparently renowned sociologist who is well represented in the Arab world.I found this article more conciliatory than most Arab or Palestinian rhetoric, but nonetheless provocative in the way it maintains a focus on blaming Israel for responding to horrific violent attacks on its civilian population.I also would like to see an end to the violence, and it clear from the factual historical record that Israel consistently keeps its word in negotiating peace accords.Typically, the only thing Israel gets in return for land or other tangible commodities necessary for survival is the "right to exist".Wow.
Please do more to publicize the human suffering and historically consistent perpetuation of violence and hatred against the Jews, not only in the Arab world, but in all other countries as well. Please do more to emphasize the dire security threat to Israel as both a nation and a people.
Please keep the focus on the real source of the violence and give context as to why the Israelis have been forced to launch offensives (better called "defensives") into Palestinian territories.
Please stop perpetuating the venomous rhetoric that scapegoats Israel as the cause of all the problems in the region and the world.
I am an American Jew who wants peace and security.I also know my history and the reality of living amid enemy nations.
Ask your readers:"What would YOU do in the same situation?"
Thank you for listening.

SUBJECT: The Morgue
Excuse me, but I beg to differ with your nasty comments about The Morgue bar..... There is NOTHING seedy about the place!!! The new owner cleaned it up very nicely. It was a dive when it was Sin City, but it's a respectabel decent place nowadays!!! Have you even been there lately???
Allyson
ROD RESPONDS: Allyson, thanks for visiting the G21 and for writing. We do appreciate hearing from our readers. No, I haven't been to The Morgue recently. Doesn't fit my budget. But I shall make it a point to get there now to verify the positive changes you mention. If you're wrong, though, expect me to blast them even harder next time. After all, "seedy" is a compliment in New Orleans. I'll recant everything I said if I get a drink served in a clean glass on the next visit.

Grand thoughts and an admirable point of view, but sadly, there just isn't much chance that things will change in this country. I agree that the education system is one of the major problems but it is going to get worse, not better, We are indeed in the age of the spin doctor. This is because we have political and corporate leaders who seem to prefer a poorly educated and therefore easily manipulted citizenry. Consider the Harvard educated CEO of CNN, who believes that "real news real fast" is a really grand slogan for reaching the public he and his bosses feel they need to buy the products that pay the bills. And who better to sell those products than Ken and Barbie newscasters? The only hope that I see is that things get so far down the only way to go is up----increasing the contradictions as the Marxists say. Try spending a few days in the arms of middle class America---family gatherings are a good place to do it---and you'll see just how hopeless the situation is. Try to tell those folks that Christopher Columbus, George Washington, and putting out more flags aren't what it's all about. "Patriotism is easy," a veteran of the bloody World War Two battle for Okinawa is quoted as saying, "War is hard." That is a lesson that few in this country have much interest in learning and the new crop of automated weaponry isn't going to make it any easier. Unfortunately, it works.

Thanks for publishing that great and very needed article by Jamie Menutis in your e-zine! I enjoyed reading it and have referred it to many of my friends. Now that we have been victorious in Afghanistan and begun to heal from the shock of the attacks on Washington and New York, it's definitely time we Americans took stock of our place in the world and had a better understanding of how to get out real message across to people in other countries.
Keep up the great work!

From Martha Hathaway, ClearPath International, Bainbridge Island, WA, USA:
Hello member of the news media,
The following is a press release from Clear Path International (CPI), a US non-profit, mine-action organization working in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.
27 Years Later, Americans Help Clear Bombs and Assist Accident Survivors in Vietnam
DONG HOI, Vietnam -- Twenty-seven years after the guns fell silent in Vietnam, accidents involving unexploded wartime ordnance still happen with alarming regularity in the heavily bombed region around the former Demilitarized Zone.
Increasingly, Americans are helping the bomb-affected communities and survivors of accidental explosions, most of whom weren’t even born yet when the fighting stopped.
Through their support of Clear Path International, U.S. donors are providing funding for several ordnance clearance projects just south of the former DMZ and for a program that offers Vietnamese accident survivors everything from emergency medical care to poverty alleviation support.
But more support is needed to continue the effort and make it successful, said Imbert Matthee, Clear Path International’s executive director.
