The G21 READERSHIP POLL

There's a certain Guilty Pleasure -- for both our readers and our writers, we've noticed -- about being able to "dish" as the trendy phrase used to go. So this poll gives you the chance to "go negative" once again.

But to add to your level of difficulty, your List can only have five (5) items, rather than the usual ten (10).

THE POLL QUESTION: What five trends, clichés, people in the news would you like to see disappear from the culture radar IMMEDIATELY?

DEADLINE: 30 April, 2005. The responses and results will appear in our "Summer Reading" edition at the end of May. Thanks in advance!

Sir or Ma'am,

I just read a review by Bob Powers. It was very insightful and well written.

Thank you very much.

Thanks for visiting G21 and for writing! It's appreciated. Since BOB POWERS literally wrote hundreds of reviews for us -- all which we felt were written and wonderful -- it's difficult for me to know which article you're referring to.

Nonehteless, I'm sure Bob's grateful for your kind words and taking the time to write us.

Regards,
Rod

Though I'd be pleased to honor your request, it's impossible. G21 is a Web-only publication now.

From Njenga, (No City Provided,) KENYA:

Subject: good work

This was an incredible article, am sure somebody can see after 40+ year of independance what has been our progress besides the vicious cycle of donation from the west.

For a long time kenyans/ africans did not believe the ideal of AIDS? they thought no way no how now that's a dilema everybody is affected as much, so what about killing one other you have that all well outlined and i can't repeat what you have said since you have nailed it on the head. What is the government doing to educate people about that.

Sincerly
Njenga

ROD RESPONDS:

Njenga,

Thanks for the kind words of support and taking the time to write us. It is sincerely appreciated.

Sadly, as with the gentlemen above, I could not tell which article you are referring to. Any number of us have written on the issue of AIDS in Africa. I suspect that you could be referring to an article by AAMENA JIWAJI -- But you could as easily be referring to MORAA GITAA, X.N. IRAKI, MPUTHUMI NTABENI, RAHEEM or myself. So I'll simply thank you for all of us.

Cheers,
Rod

From Irena C., (No City Provided,) FRANCE:

SUBJECT: john franzmann

Hi,

I don't know if this is still a valid email address for Rod Diener. I just did a Google search on John Franzmann and was shocked and saddened to read of his death. It's so sad. He and his then-wife Mary were my neighbours in Cambridge. I used to babysit for their children. Martin and Alice (?), John's parents, were kind and full of dignity. John's sister, Alice, was sweet and lovely.?You're right that John was smart. I feel so so sad.

Irena

ROD RESPONDS:

Irena,

I have passed your condolences on to RON DIERNER, who I'm sure will be in touch.

From Dot H., Queens, NY, USA:

SUBJECT: Zana Briski

My husband is a professor at a local university that is interested in Ms. Briski's endeavors.? Is?there a way of contacting her directly -- or can you have her contact me directly? ?

Thank you. ?

Mrs. Irvin N. H. (Dot) Queens, New York

ROD RESPONDS:

Mrs. H.;

Thanks for visiting G21 and for writing. I have passed your request on to BRAD BALFOUR who conducted the interview you reference for us and he should be in touch shortly. Cheers!
