SUBJECT: Wrong picture boyle family
The picture is not the family of Neil plunkett O'Boyle
ROD RESPONDS:Richard,
Thanks for visiting G21 and for writing.
I'm copying in Mattie Lennon on your e-mail because he is the author of the column and submitted the pictures. Can you verify your claim, BTW?
Cheers,
RA
To Which Richard W. wrote:
Yes the picture is of my wife's father and his three sisters and two brothers and his mother and father. Neil Plunkett Boyle was my wife's father's cousin. Two of my father's brothers were not in the picture due to they were on the run from the british. Their names were Manus and Neil.

And ROD RESPONDED:
Richard,
As I said, I'm passing this on to Mr. Lennon for his response. I'm doing so in this case, as well. We make every attempt at G21.net to get our facts right. BUT, as edifor, all I can do is rely upon the writers. If Mr. Lennon was in error this time, I offer you my sincere apologies, but I must await his response.
I hope you understand.
Regards,
Rod

Hi mattie,
i 've attached some documnets and pictures to this message which i hope will be of help to you'se.
I regards to living relatives, as you know yourself everyone is related to you when you're dead, even more so if your a patriot.I am related to him myself but dont think tht makes a difference either way, i would suggest to you that you speak to more senior members of the community who would have a wealth of information on this issue, i can organise a few should the need arise. Many of the people who would be related to Plunkett, sadly have had no interest in taking part in any events commemorating him in the past run by the Rosses martyrs commemoration committee. But you might find different , its amazing how peoples views change when theres a camera involved.
In regard to the d ocument i've attached you may find some errors in place names etc, not knowing the area made it very diffficult .just as a note of information to youselves there is a banner commemorated to Plunkett , and it is carried each year during the commemoration. It is said beautifully hand drawn, and could be of interest to you if your planning to shoot some footage in the area.
regards

Date: Wed, 3 May 2006 01:23:38 +0100Hi Michelle,
I just got an email from Rod amis, editor of G21, on-line magazine. Seemingly he has received an email from Rick w###/ ann Boyle W#### who claim that the photo of "Plunketts family" is the wrong photo. Can you throw any light on this?
Thanks again for the source material.
Mattie.
dear Mr. W####,
The following is the reply which i have just received from Michelle Boyle.

Subject: RE: Fw: Wrong picture boyle familyMattie,
I presume the picture your referring to is of his family outside his home. This picture had been in the community for many years. It features Plunkett 2nd from left in back row,his sister to his left, his mother and father in front row to right, the remainder are friends/neighbours.It is taken outside his home.
He refers to his wife's father's brothers Manus and Neil.Manus and Neil Boyle were from another Boyle family from the same community as Plunkett. They were involved most notably their other brother Eoghan who died on Hunger-Strike.I presume his wife's father was named Bartley or James.
Anyway , hope this helps you out. Great article you wrote, went down well in Donegal. As i said to you before with someone like Plunkett everyone wants to have a claim on him.But as far as we are concerned it is as it has always been of Plunketts family as featured in the book by Padraig O Baoighill. There has been confusion in the past that Plunkett and the other Boyle's were of the same family perhaps this is where this person is getting misinformed.
Regards
Michelle

Dear Mr. W####,
I have been informed by Rod Amis editor of G21 that you are dissatisfied with the caption of a photo which I used in my article on Niel Plunkett O'Boyle. I am attaching the source material which Io received from Michelle Boyle, a relative of "Plunkett". I can only assume that Michelle is also a related to your wife. Since the photo was given to me by a relative of Niel O'Boyle I did not have any reason to doubt its authenticity. if there is any inaccuracy involved I apologize but I received an email (which I will forward to you) from a Mark Boyle in Cambridge who seems pleased with the article and photo.
I have contacted Michelle Boyle for further information and I will forward her reply to you.
Thanking you,
Mattie Lennon.

SUBJECT: Why 'Snide Remarks'?
The article I found was about Neill Plunket O'Boyle a Donegal man. I thought it was interesting and at the bottom you( well at least I thought it was you ) said to email (snide remarks) well at least that is how I interpreted it and I could not imagine why anyone would want to as he was a clever bloke What the terse question was( and that is also a strange word in the way of the world was ) "was that man interned in Kilmainain jail?"
MATTIE LENNON RESPONDS:Hi Julia,
Re; your enquiry to Rod Amis, Editor of The World Magazine G21,net.
As far as I know "Plunkett" wasn't interned in Kilmainam jail. But Joseph Mary Plunkett, one of the rebel leaders of the 1916 insurrection, was executed there. It was because Niell Boyle had such admiration for the bravery of this man that he himself was nicknamed "Plunkett".
Regular readers of The World Magazine are aware of Rod Amis's sense of humour and know that he concludes each edition with," Send your snide remarks etc....".
It is obvious that it does not refer to any particular piece and did not refer to my article on Neill Boyle.
I hope this answers your question,
Mattie Lennon.

SUBJECT: FAKE LETTER
Dear Me,
Believe it or not the IRISH EYES article on Neil O'Boyle was NOT the only article we published over the last two months but you couldn't tell it by our "Letters" page, could ya'. Looks like our mate MATTIE LENNON knocked one out of the park with that piece.
Maybe in our next edition we'll get letters about something else, 'ey?
My "sense of humor," he said. Crimey! I didn't know I had one.
Thanks for writing to yourself, Rod
